Could this act as a stand for my fishtank?

The dimensions and color are perfect. My tank is a 26g bowfront with about 40lbs of liverock. Could I keep the drawers out and put my sump inside? Possibly install wood support beams inside to help with the weight?

Thanks in advance

I used the cheapest piece of junk nightstand to hold a 20gal. goldfish tank with no problems..... It was almost made out of cardboard

I would just make sure it is very sturdy and a center brace might help but I would think you should have no problem at all!! One thing you could do is pull the face off of the drawers and mount them to a plywood panel the same size as both doors and then hinge them so that you have a door to get to your fuge but it still looks like a filing cabinet.

This would look great in my office, hollow out the inside and keep the doors still on the front. I may give it a try!

One thing I see is the top is fastened to the sides. It would be better if the top was on top of the sides. The sides would hold the weight of the tank instead of whatever is fastening the top to the sides.

True... I ran a few wood screws in from the sides on my nightstand and I also had a 1x6 inside to help hold the weight.
If it was that big a deal you could run a 1x4 down each side on the inside from the underside of the top to the floor and then the weight would be on the boards instead of the joints.

Aside from reinforcing with 1x2's I would go for it! I would bet a lot of the structural strength would come with the drawers in there but a little reinforcement is easy!

you might consider some sort of torsional brace across the back of the cabinet as well...a 1x4 from the top corner to opposing bottom corner...just to keep it from twisting and collapsing if the ground isnt even...

BTW i had those same sliders in my cabinet and they rusted all to poop, to the point of being absolutely useless...
