counterfeit reef salts

Just wondering with all the sellers on ebay and amazon if anyone has run across counterfeit reef salt. They seem to counterfeit every other item in the world.

you can buy a fake rolex or designer purse for 20 or something - that includes manufacture, import and retail sale costs. i just noticed there are guys on ebay selling salts with very little feedback and selling non-aquarium items to make things more suspicious.

i think i'll spend the extra $5 and buy from a well known source, less likely (not impossible) i get something fake.

Fake reef salt...lmao. That's hilarious...who would go to the time and effort to even attempt it? A 50 gallon bag of reef salt at Petsmart is $16.00...I bought a 200 gallon box of Reef Crystals directly from Amazon for $34.00 with free shipping a couple weeks ago.

While probably not really worth the effort, "faking" salt, or more likely selling something like table salt for aquarium salt is not impossible. But you would probably notice it very quickly.

If they are charging $15 for a 200 gallon mix something is fishy in a very bad way. :beer:

Ive purchased all my IO reef salt and many supplys from several vendors on Ebay that also sold odd items that were non aquarium related and were from different Country origins but never had any issue at all & got the best price & free shipping. But all Ebay purchases are now covered should anything bad happen anyway so its safe as far as recovering your funds. My only advice is this: check out the feedback and be wary of anyone with really low feedback even if its good and look to see when they started selling also, if that is recent again be wary.
