Couple Of Clam Pics

Thought I would post a couple of pics of the clams I have so far, a deresa and a maxima. Both are 4". The maxima is not looking good today because my tank over heated big time! I live in Missouri and the weather here can go from 30 degrees to 65 degrees in a matter of a few hours this time of year. It happened today while I was away all day at work and left the heat on inside the house. I cooled the tank off with bags of ice when I got home and was able to get it down to 83 degrees, hopefully the maxima will pull through. Anyway, hope you all like the pictures.

How hot did your tank get? What kind of lights are over the tank? The maxima looks a little washed out?

Hope they will be ok. :)

The maxima is washed out due to my poor photography skills. It's the best pic I have of it and I wanted to post something.

I went to class after work yesterday and didn't get home until 10:00 p.m. At that time the tank was 86.2 degrees. With the MH's (2 250's) on during the day there's no tellin' how hot it got. Normally the tank stays at 82-83.

86 will not do any permanent damage to your clam, maybe some temporary "inconveniences". It should pull through just fine.

I suspect the temp probably hit at least 87 yesterday. I can only guess since I wasn't here. The clam is looking much worse, and I see some white stuff coming out of it which is probably tissue? It's open and has great color, but the mantle is completely retracted. It looks like it's melting away. I moved it to a different location today. I don't know if this is a good idea or not but I don't know what to do for it. I did some water tests and thought maybe you all may spot something else that could be the problem. I realize the nitrates could come down a little, I'm getting ready for a water change right now. I'm thinking it just got stressed from the sudden swing yesterday. TIA

Temp 81.5
Alk 8 dKH
Ca 450
Salinity 1.024
Nitrate 20
Ph 8.2
