Couple of light questions

Hi Jason:

1. Does there exist a 20K 250w halide/mogul base? I can only find the HQI. If so, is it any good and can you get them

2. Short of that, what's the best 250w 10k+ lamp, in your opinion. I have the 65K Iwasaki now but am tired of the yellow tint--I think I should be getting better color on my acros (I do seem to have the DL lamp)

marine depot has 250w 20K also look on atlantisaquatics.com or midland marine for info.I emailed marinedepot about the radium 250w 20k and they have them.

Hi JT,

Yes, we carry a 20K 250watt Radium bulb that is a screw in type mogule socket. I would recommend running this bulb on an hqi style ballast though.

On the 10K 250watt, i would recommend the Ushio 10K mogule bulb. It's crisp white just like the 175 and 400watt. If you want more blue, you can go with Blueline 10K or 12K Sunburst, these have a nice heavy blue tint, but you'll loose around 20% brightness compared to your 65K and 10K ushio.

p.s. Is the 65K you are running have a resistor piece inside? It's a grey spiral shaped piece, about the size of a cigarette that runs horizontal with the bulb started by the base. That's there newest version of the Iwasaki and is suppose to burn more white then previous ones.

Nope, no resister. Money aside, what's the better bulb--Ushio or Iwasaki (the new one)? I know personal taste comes into this.

Hi JT,

I think UShio would burn a little more clean, but if it was me, i would go with the Iwasaki, if i had VHO or PC actinics.
