CPR AquaFugeâ„¢ PS Large

Has anybody used the CPR AquaFugeâ„¢ PS Large/Small? Or other refugiums like it?

Was thinking of using to replace my current protein skimmer, and use it with some mud or alge to get some extra filtration on my 58 gal. Also as a quarantine for smaller developing corals or smaller injured fish.

Is the skimmer worth anything? Any good? Does it work well?
Is the 4.5 gallon capacity (the large) enough to have for some algae or mud/sand and be affective?

Any advice is appreciated.

It is the same skimmer as the bak pak. And IME the bak-pak is worthless. You can get it to work half way decent if you do the airstone mod. But I wish I had a remora instead of a bak-pak. Also on my hang on fuge there is enough room for 1 type of alage. Depending on the size of the tank you can get some pretty decent nutrient export. I had the issue of too slow of flow in mine. Mine got lots of natural light, and I was removing cheato very rapidly.

I have the small fuge but i dont have the skimmer on mine i just have full of cheato and live rock mine is on my 10gal. and it does a great job!

I plan on adding a hang on fuge/skimmer to my 60 as well. I have a remora pro on it right now and am looking to replace it. I'll probably get the cpr version as I trust their quality and think their overall service is very good.

I just saw these at a show this wknd and it looked like it would do just what I want...enough room to grow an effective amount of macro with an integrated skimmer. Nothing is really wrong with my water quality now, but I think this will be a more natrual way of achieving the same results. There are a few other benefits that I think I will also get out of this switch (in addition to the ones TimmyB mentioned).

I'm sure the skimmer can't skim as well as the r.pro, but that's what I'm looking for...just looking to have it take out some of the DOCs and expecting additional nutrient export from the macro in the fuge.

jent46bow, is the water going to the bakpak skimmer being skimmed from the top of the tank?
