Crocea - Is too much light possible

My 110 currently has 1 250w 20K MH bulb, 440 VHO, actinic and 10k. I have two small maxima's 24 inches down on the sand bed. They are doing great. 690 total watts.

I just purchased a 5 inch Crocea. I have a perfect natural rock cradle about 10 inches below the surface. It is almost directly below my 250 MH. Will this be too much light? I have put him on the sand bed with my maxima's for now, but I would like to try the higher location if you think it will work. My sand is starting to look a bit crowded.

Thanks

i don't think with the crocea there is too much lighting. since i think they are the most demanding of the clams. i my self have 2 maxima's on the sand bed in my 45gal with 2 atinic bulbs and 2 (i forget the wattage) 10k MH bulbs i think you can put him higher up. but if i'm wrong someone will chime in and help

What's important is to acclimate it to the higher light slowly. Try not to move it up in the rock work too fast so it doesn't get shocked by the sudden increase in light. Or you can put it in place (high up in the rocks) and use a few small squares of window screening to shade it slightly, then remove a piece of screening every couple of days until its basking in full metal halide glory. It also helps to know what kind of lighting it was under before you purchased it so you can get a better idea of what conditions its used to.

All that being said, I moved a crocea from my tank (20" below a 175 watt MH) to a friends tank (placed about 10" below 250 watt MH) without any problems. Wouldn't suggest it, just thought it worth throwing out there.

After reading some other posts about a Crocea's rock preference, I decided to go for it and put him on the rock. He seems to be doing well. Thanks for the feedback on light. I just get a bit worried sometimes. When I first added the MH, many of my polyps and mushrooms were less than excited.

Here is a pic. Sorry for the focus. My pic skills are terrible.

One thing I noticed about croceas, they stay on the rocks when I place them there. Unlike the darn maximas that keep fidgeting and end up falling. Prolly, maxis prefer the subtrate and croceas up on the rocks. Hmmm

Yeah, I have 5 croceas about 8" under a 10,000K 250wattDE...They LOOOOOOOOOOOVE it. Ever since I have had them, the 'rings' that they make have gotten bigger and bigger. Instead of being 1/16-1/8" layers, they are about double. No such thing as too much light with these.

yep just repeating and agreeing with whats stated by everyone elese, croaces cant have too much light, but aclamating them sure dosent hurt ither......maximas love the sandbed, and croaceas love the rocks........
