Hotel Steven King stayed at

An Eerie trivia fact:

Can't remember where it actually is,
but there is a hotel somewhere much like the one in the book / movie-
in the middle of the woods way out somewhere.
Maybe in canada? or not.. anyhow it exists.
Supposedly has some ghosts, if you believe in that sort of thing.
A haunted hotel.. ? LOL

Well anyhow, the hotel was closed down eventually.
But Steven King was actually one of it's LAST guests.
He was having trouble (writers block) with coming up with his next book.
So, he stayed in the hotel for "inspiration".
After leaving, he wrote "The Shining".

I'm sure exaggerated in the film, however supposedly the children playing and laughing, hallways that got longer, & murderous visions were some of the effects experienced by people who stayed at the hotel... especially on the "most haunted floor".

King stayed in a room on that floor for a few days.
At the time when open still, guests supposedly encountered "other guests" that they later found out, were not staying in the hotel at that time or in the log...

Recently the hotel was featured on a ghost program. I don't know about real.. But this stuff is entertaining to a certain point. Sometimes makes me laugh.

Love Jack Nicholson in the film and King is definitely a weird dude.

The hotel is actually in Colorado, and is not shut down.
It's called the Stanley Hotel - in Estes Park, CO.
The book was at least started there during Steven King's stay.
Strange that I know these things since I can't deal with scary books/movies - but I grew up in CO, played several concerts at this hotel and actually stayed there the night of my wedding! :)

what's the hotel in Quebec that was used in a scary movie??? this is going to keep me awake....oh wait....

Well... I'm far from an expert on this topic :)
2 things - Steven King wrote the first half of the Shining at the Stanley Hotel in CO, and this hotel was used when they filmed the ABC miniseries in 1996.
Perhaps there's another hotel in Quebec where he finished the book?
