Current USA recall

I know a LFS here in VT refuses to carry Current products due to "their high failure rates and lack of company support". Maybe Vermont folk are just plain unlucky when it comes to Current products.

China Inc. Third world to me. I make a concerted effort to buy US/Swiss/German/Japanese or Italian products when ever possible.

I have four products from Switzerland and couldnt be happier with their outsanding quality. If you are in the market for a View camera, a Watch, drill, or clean room grade air purifier they wont let ya down.:D

I didn't know much about current products before I ordered my Dual Satellite, but I have to say, I have been happy with it in the 2 years that I have had it. I myself try not to buy imports, but sometimes domestic is just too darn expensive. I have to say, I am pleased with Current so far.

I too have never had a problem with my Current USA products. I did get a little jolt though from my aqualight PRO (coralife) but only once...I thought it was going to be a reaccuring thing but I bumped it again with my hand in the water...and nothing. It was a one time deal, but one to be cautious about in the future...with any product. But I have loved CUSA for so long now that I think I will stick with them from now on. I have recently gotten the 24g AquaPod with 70W SunPod. It does have an *** load of moonlight (not really sure why?), but it is a beautiful light to me. I love it already. I prefer the blue for the moonlight cause that many white LEDs seems to bright to be moon like, it's just a low light at that point. But again to answer the question about the SunPod...I'm still testing to see how well the growth is, it is only 70W but it's a smaller tank. they have a 20" 150W that I may end up getting, but gonna hold out and see how things go. I do like the 14,000K though and think that I will get this fixture in the 36" size for my upcomming 58g tank. The 14,000K take away the need for actinics, they are blue enough...but the fixture is only the size of a regular Orbit (not "orbitz"...that's gum) so You CAN fit some retro fit PC's in a hood if you need to. But We shall see. So far though I would highly recommend the SunPod.

They should recall all their products! Every set of lights i ever bought from them i have gotten shocked from! i finallu pulled their fixtures apart and mounted them in a canopy!

Mine shocks me everytime. I got rid of the damm thing. it was a PC satelite fixture. The switch to turn on and off the atnic light is not grounded if you touch it when it is plugged in it shocks you.

They make a bad product IME.

Just because you have not had the same experience as others does not make others experiences untrue.

I have just order a "Perfecto 90 gal tank-oak" from pets-warehouse
I have called them up to make sure everything will be ok..like no scratches on the glass and that there no gaps in the silicone..we have a pretty good 20mins talk...

fwiw,...

i've been selling current fixtures for a tad over a year (i work for an etailer)-the amount of complaints are neglible, and well below what should be expected as normal for production line statistics (there's always a percentage of 'lemons' on ANY manufacturing line that gets past quality control).(i've probably sold some hundreds of their lights, to make no mention of the other products they're marketing.

we've never had issues with replacement parts not being easily available, and i've found their customer support personnel quite helpful and professional, every time we've had to take care of issues for customers, like ballasts, etc that sometimes fail under warranty. parts are also easily available for purchase post warranty-you just need to know where the authorized dealers are ;)

fwiw, coralife fixtures are also produced in china-it happens to be where more and more manufacturers HAVE to go, due to our own over-inflated labor costs/market.

hobbyists need to remember that they are all but one owner out of thousands-just because one hobbyists (or even a hundred) have a bad experience with a product, it doesn't necessarily mean that that is any reflection of the product's quality in general...

it's like ups and fedex-anyone who gets a snafu usually always says 'ups/fedex sucks!' or some such....

if they thought for one second about the countless packages that arrive without a hitch, compared to how many snafus occur, they'd realize what a miraculous and stupendous job those shipping companies truly accomplish, and how irrelevant the snafu is in the grand scheme of things ;)

just my own $0.02 ;)

Ditto... :D

Or as we say in the insurance industry... you never hear from the happy customers but, man, look out for the mad ones. They'll rip you a new one for something that was (usually) their own fault (yes, sometimes we DO make mistakes that can always be fixed) and then tell everyone they know how horrible their insurance company is.

I had a customer that literally had 50 friends and relatives insured with us and when his policy cancelled because HE didn't pay the bill he told them all we cancelled him by mistake and refused to reinstate coverage. The friends and relatives of his that knew us better than that are still with us to this day. ;)

But, back to the topic. I've had my 48" Orbit PC fixture for 1 year and only felt a tiny tingle the ONE time I bumped into it with my hand in the tank. Now if you'd like to gripe about light fixtures lets discuss ZooMed's slider hoods for reptile tanks... my husband and I have had to re-wire every one of the 5 we have.

current?????can you say custom sea life and the fire hazard double helix uv. we are also having problems with their chillers.....get it right guys, your stuff is built like tanks, but the insides may be a little suspect. not really sure about their lights as we don't stock them, and the aquapods we have are not the recalled ones, well 1 of them was and what happened was exactly what is stated, the new ones we have have been fine, i actually like them better than the jbj ones as the surface skimmer is better. to make a long story...........................EVEN LONGER, almost all companies have problems with some of their products, but most of the problems are not fire hazards.

hey i thought this thread was about the aquapod recall? whats up with all this p.c talk? its either one for the current lights, its either that it shocks you or its that it gets so hot!! u just can't win. i chose to go t5's ended my problems.

who's making good nano tanks now anyway? jbj's nano cubes are known for cracking and now the aquapod's are shocking ppl?!! what da hell!! luckily my nano is made of extra thick polished and mitered edges with a built-in t5 light strip and i didn't get it from either place. it doesn't shock me and its not gonna crack....fingers crossed.

sorry, couldnt resist commenting on that typo

The only problem i have is that I bought the orbit fixture and now I am thinking I should have gone with the outer orbit fixture. They're not lyig when they say you will always want to go bigger!
