Deep sand bed in mantis tank

I am setting up a 6 gallon eclipse tank for a mantis. I was wondering if any of you use a deep sand bed in your tanks and if you'd reccomend having one.

Smashers like to build their burrows in live rock and crushed coral, around 4 inches would be good. Spearers like to build their burrows in sand or mud and use a "glue" they spit out so enforce their burrow, they need a deeper substrate than smashers. I have a O. scyallarus with 5 inches of crushed coral he has a burrow in a cave that he piles broken shells and small rocks around.
