i was feeding my tank marine cusine ( sp? ) and i think the clam might have got a piece stuck in side him because he shot water out the gaped for about 2 minutes. He stopped but his mantle isnt as big as before. my actinicts came one right before he was done gaping so mabey this has something to do with mantle lenght. can he die from my fish food ( keep in mind i didnt try to feed him i was feeding the fish on the opposite side of the tank) thanx a bunch in advance

The spitting is of course a reaction to inhaling something he didn't like, and the gaping is his way of telling you so.

Watch the gaping carefully, that should go away after a day, no more.

Gaping is a sign of stress.

its when the incurrent syphon of the clam starts to open very wide. It i only with corceas but there have been a few occasions with other clams, the clam should be fine, but keep a close eye on it for the next few days.
