Deresa Question

I am just wondering about lighting for this type of Clam. I have read they do not have the same light requirements as the others. My current set up hs fairly intense lighting, however it is PC. I have 130 watts over a 20 gallon tank with 30 pounds of LR in it. The gentleman at Reefermadness.us is telling me a Derasa will do just fine under those lights and he is gauranteeing it. Does anyone think this Clam will croak under this type of light? Do I absolutely have to have metal halide lights for Clams? Will intense PC's stil cause the Deresa clam to wither and die over time? Please give me your experienced opinions, cause this guy (who is very nice by the way) is obviuously trying to sell me something.

The Deresa Clam will be fine in your tank. It is a 20g short, right?? I had a 6" Deresa in a 90g Reef tank under 440w of VHOs and PC. I had it for about 2yrs and it grew about 1" in that time. They are great clams, very hardy. They do consume a good amount of Calium. But that is the only clam I would recommend for VHOs and PCs. I found out the hard way.:(

Thanks for the reassurement guys, I really appreciate it! My brother has a 75 gallon so I will have to give it to him if outgrows my tank.

FWIW

I have a Squamosa clam in a 29 bowfront, under 220 watts PC lighting (mix of 10k and actinics) and he has grown 1" of mantle and 2 new sets of scutes inside of 6 months.

I started with the Squamosa because of ease of care, but under the lights he's turned from drab brown-ish, to gold and purple with blue highlights.

This is a two year old Derasa is 14+ inches long it grow 10 inches in that time you goin to need bigger tank later.they need large amount of calcium daily. the clam next to it is a four inche maxima.

It was 4 inches when you got it?? WOW! What did you use for Calcium supplementation? And what kind of lights did you have it under?? THX!

That Tank is absolutely beautiful!! Nice work....Looks like eventually I will be giving this Deresa away to someone who has a bigger tank.
