Devils hand leather

I bought a devils hand leather and it was shipped to me about a week ago. The fiji leather that was also shipped melted away and turned black. The devils hand was shedding when i put it in my tank and i figured once it was done it would recover and look better. I's been a week and it still looks awful, bits of it have fallen off, the tips of the fingers, and i saw one of my hermits having a nibble at it earlier. How long do these things take to recover usually?

I've noticed it does inflate slightly in the morning but there's no polyp extension. I have it resting in the sand bed right now and have been doing small water changes every 2 days to remove the bits that have fallen off it.

Tank is 14 g's and lighting it PC.
All parameters are good and since i've been doing more water changes everything else is looking great.

Been trying to get back on to post pics.

So there's a bit more polyp extension today but not much, probably because during the wc last night i blasted it with a turkey baster.

(Sorry the pics are so small, i took them with my phone.)

As you can see, once finger is completely gone, another has lost it's tip. The flest is white and seems to be coming away. I'm not sure if this is just shipping stress/new acclimation stress or if it's got fungus or something leathers get. So should i leave the white? is it dead tissue? Should i cut it off and hope the rest can recover?

No they were packaged really well, in separate bags and with a heat pack. It looked worse a few days ago but the white bits are starting to concern me.

The poor fiji just melted away and didn't stand a chance.
