I have had this Diablo skimmer for about a 1 1/2 years and it has worked awesome. This weekend I upgraded my plumbing system to all flexspa piping. When I fired up the return pump, verified no leaks, I brought the skimmer back on line. The first thing I noticed was that the skimmer chamber filled with water but the bubbles in the chamber were comparatively very large in relation to the tiny micro-bubbles usually produced. Where the chamber usually had a milky white color it now had a grey color due to the larger size of the bubbles.
Having worked as a chef for many years I know that things like oils can prevent foams from forming in media such as egg whites and soda pop. Im kicking myself now for not flushing the spaflex before installing it but that opportunity has passed. Perhaps there was some type of oil/ contaminate in the pipe?
So, has anybody experienced this situation with their skimmer not producing micro-bubbles and did it resolve itself? The diablo has a sicce1000 pump, I verified that all of the needles on the impeller are still intact and the pump does not appear to be clogged and will move a very large volume of water if I open the gate valve fully. I have tried stopping and restarting the pump several times with no success.
