Diadema dottyback

The one I had about 15 years ago was quite agressive at about a 1.5" size. Your's may be different but I wouldn't risk a lot of $$ betting on it. Again, my experience is that most species of dottybacks leave a cleaner shrimp alone but would not be as tolerant of a peppermint shrimp.

I see no reason in my experience to expect anything but normal dottyback agressive behavior from a P.diadema until proved otherwise.

Sorry for your loss. :(

Thats what Im afraid of. I want to keep shrimp and it made me mad when it ate a $8 peppermint. A $20 cleaner or $30 fire shrimp and I would have to kill it.

that's about how i felt when i watched my new wrasse eat my pistol shrimp. i was tapping on the glass trying to scare it...yelling at it..."you little bastard!!!" lol

Thanks for the info henry. I do have good news though, what I saw that looked like a piece of shrimp was just a molt. I saw the whole thing last night. So after a hour of trying to check underneath all the rock I finaly saw him. So the dottyback didnt kill him after all. After reading henrys article I will probaly get rid of him anyway. I have a clown goby that I like and dont want him pushed around.
