Diary of a 29

my 150 DE is about 5-6 inches off the top rin of the tank, so about 5.5 inches off surface, its hot, but my tank stays from 78.5-19.5 all day and night, i finally got my heater tuned in

OK well i just have another question how do you get the water back into the tank from the sump. I know it goes through a hose but does it just coming flying out of the hose. Can you hock it up to a powerhead?

get a pump, if yer GPH through overflow is 300, then get a pump for 300+ (need more for head loss)

put a ball valve and T on the return so water can go backinto sump if its too much

Ok well I have another question
1. Do the maxi-jet powerheads have to be completly sumurged under water
2. Can any one help me find a filter sock under petsolutions i know they sell it but i cant find it.
3. Do you think homeDepot sell he u-tubes because i also cant find that under petsolutions
4. My salt has been in my tank for three days and there is like a powder on the bottom of the tank is that ok? Can i start to add the rock and sand.
Thanks for any help puffer21

First off, I think you will highly regret a 10 gal sump. Your retutn section of your sump will be way too small. You will hve to add top off water every day to every other day. I recently added a 20H sump to my 29 gal setup. I have a sedona stand and had the same problem you have. All youhave to do is cut the middle of that lip that is in the back (this is what I did). After I screwed down the 2 pieces of the lip that were left. It is just as sturdy as before.
Second thing is you are going to need a return pump(not a powerhead). After you get the pump go to Home Depot and get plastic tubing to attach to the pump. You will need that U-tube previously mentioned to return the water into your tank. My return pump was rated at 700+ gph so I had to put a splitter on the return hose and run 2 U- tubes back into the tank. This is how I made mine. Hope this helps.

Yes that helps thanks. I also dont mind adding water every day and I really dont want to go with anything bigger than a 10 gallon sump. Also can anyone answer the above questions.

Can someone please help me with these questions I really want to know so i can put my powerheads back on and so that i can add the sand to my tank

yes, i would submerge the MJ all the way, put stuff in, its fine.

when i first did my tank my salt was low, so i added a 5 gallon bag right to the tank, let it sit for a week with powerheads at the CC bottom

what you have is not salt, it would haev dissolved naturally by now

JMO

probably just somethign that was in the salt, if its white flakes, i get those alot, nothing bad, if you are worried siphon them out!

get a cool rockwork, its hard in a 29, i just re did mine, 2 pillars, one really high on the left, lots of ledges and caves, the other about 5 inches tall in the right corner, bit space in middle for swimming room and frags

Do you have any pics. Also its more of a powered at the bottom of the tank that you have to skrap off it is really weird. is it my salt.

It is probably your salt. If you are worried about it just stir it up while the protien skimmer is running. I would not worry about it. Start adding your sand and whatever else, it will not hurt anything. I have the same thing at the bottom of my empty sump(its going to happen). As far as the power heads, I would totally submerge them. But, you acan get away wih only submerging the intake and output portions of the pump.

I would if it came from a disease free tank. It will make your tank cloudy for a day or 2, but that is normal. Post some pics when you get everything setup
