Hey all,

I currently have a DIgital Rebel SLR and am getting ready to get a working computer to do my photography work on it. I am 95% set on geting an Apple Macintosh... And I would really like to get a lap top so that I can take my work with me. Any Suggestiones or advice on which laptop?

DOes not have to be a Mac, but that is what I know right now and have had no complaints! Thanks for your help!;)

well, i own both a mac and a pc, however i find the mac to be much better with the pics it will load them faster, and is easier to work with IMO.

i only use my PC now for the internet becuase i have yet to get the airport system for wireless....

i dont have the lap top however my uncle does, and IMO the 17" is the best for working wiht pics....

good luck
Victor

Thanks for the input.. any idea on the best processor for the laptop? I was thinking of the power book.. I am not sure

If you're going to go Mac, I'd recommend going for the MacBook pro. It's going to have more future and will eventually be faster. Some things, like Photoshop, will currently be running in emulation mode (not as fast) but updates are promised for later in the year. For hobby use, iPhoto is a great package that comes with the machine and runs really, really fast on that box.

Don't skimp on RAM. 1GB is good, 2GB is better.

I'd also support that "if you're gonna do it... DO IT!" Don't skimp on the processor and RAM. And don't skip on the big monitor, especially since you'll be using it for photos.

FWIW, Mac's big photo claim to fame was that they ran Photoshop faster than a PC. That's simply not true any more, so don't use it as consideration. If you already know Mac, stick with it. I'm a PC guy, and was forced into a Mac for 4 years. I got really used to it, but there's nothing like... nevermind, this isn't the place for a PC/Mac fight :).

Big monitor, big RAM, big processor.

EDIT: Holy Crap! $3K!! Nevermind that "stick with it" BS. Get 2 PCs and a nice printer for that cost!

</sticker shock>

15" Macbook pro. i have a 15" powerbook and it is the perfect size. the 17" is too big to actually be called portable.

get the fastest processor you can afford and a gig of RAM.

I also went with the 15" for the same reason as aural. I also have a IMac but don't use it much now that I have the powerbook. The big screen is nice to have for photos but I got use to the small one now. If you are doing photos 99% of the time you will want a BIG monitor. I find the gig works good for me. IPhoto is fine for most people I have PS and the beta version of Adobe Lightroom most of the time for web pics I still just use IPhoto.

Get the MacBook, and a large external monitor, then you can run it in dual monitor mode and simply put the pallets on the second monitor.

My setup consists of a quad-header display, and I run external monitors on my notebooks as well:

Wow, that looks just like my office, except I only have one computer and one monitor, one router, no artpad, one printer, one table, no desk lamp, and there's a mess all over the floor. But other than that, it's pretty close! :)

gho.. I didnt forget about you!

Inspiration! LOL.. I am getting a G4 Dual desktop next week. It is not brand new. My Roommate has had it packed up for almost a year now with the box collecting dust. I checked it out, no bugs all origional hardware and software. I offered him$1000. for it. It has loads of goodies and he is also giving me 2 monitors (I dont think I will use them though).

The laptop will be a gift from my mom... so things are really starting to come into play now!

Cool score on the Dual G4!

If the laptop is for your mum, and as long as she's not into editing digital photographs, I would recommend an iBook.

Bottom line, if she's not already begging for a power/macbook, she's prolly not a power-user/computer geek, and she probably doesn't need it. An iBook will do her fine (looks pretty chic too).

No the lap top is for me. So that way I can also do my editing where ever I am. I am getting the laptop and the G4 Dual.

Ex: I have been working overtime at work everyday from 9am-11pm.... the lap top will come in handy! Plus, since I am still going through therapy on my back I can lay in bed and work as well!
