This week with the algae:

I really think its due to p04 leaching from my rocks. I just started up my tank again 2 months after hurricane katrina. I thought the rocks would decay outside in the sun. I guess I should have cooked the rocks. My ro/di is a 0 tds. I'm sure my water supply isn't the cause. My phosban reactor is coming next week, hopefully that and water changes are going to help me with this battle. This sucks azz...

I bought an algae blenny for $15 at my LFS and the hair algae was gone in a less than a week.

Good Luck,

Billy

yea i just bought me a bi-color blenny...seems like he is picking on the rocks, but damn there is so much for the little guy.

i've heard a kole tang will do a good job on it as well........just got 1 and it doesn't stop picking on the rock looking for any algea!

I was thinking about a small yellow tang or kole, but kinda worried about the bioload. Snails? I had astrea snails before and they didn't do jack. I heard about turbo snails, but I can't find any locally. Thanks for the great replies!

hermits love hair algae, a few blue legs, a few days. dont get red legs they are canibles, they eat everything else too. i had one flip a snail off the wall. he and my cleaner shrimp had a feast then he moved in to his new home. nature at its finest. lol!

i got a kole tang yesterday only a baby about 1.5-2 inchs hes just come out and picking on all the rocks, looks likes hes gonner be better than my cuc

cuc= Clean up crew

just got some blue hermits today 15 of them...I'm going get a small yellow tang later, but then I need to set up a quarantine tank first. I don't trust tangs b/c they ich and maybe cause an outbreak in my tank

By the way, would my ro/di of 5 tds be part of the problem? I found that out two weeks ago and had all my prefilters and di replaced resulting in 0 tds now.

Yea, I should try some cheato. I was thinking about making a small 5 gallon glass refegium to complement my tank because that is all the space I have. I heard that if the refugium is too small I would benefit from it. What do you all think?

5 TDS may be bad, but still much better than the best tap water.

Fuges are excellent to prevent further algae outbreaks. A small fuge works better than no fuge.
