Dipping Duncans

One of my duncans has some weird looking stuff on it that appears to be eating it. Its low on one of the stems, but its working its way up. There was a post a few weeks ago with pics of someone elses duncan that had the same thing on it and no one knew wut it was, but it looks like little balls of tiny spaghetti. When i say tiny i mean like hair sized, they r yellow and seem to be moving slowly up the duncan towards the heads. My question is... Can i do a freshwater dip on the duncan to try to kill wutever this is without damaging the coral? If so how long would you recommend, i don't know how sensitive duncans are to this type of thing.

i did a little reading about them and saw that they r stress related. i tested my water and my alkalinity was low could this be a cause for the filaments coming out.
