HI

I have a Ultra Maxima and a Deresa Clam. WHat shout be the distance of these clams from the MH 250/ 10 K light?

Should I have the Deresa in the sand bed and Maxiam on the rock?

If I recall correctly, Daniel Knop recommends 250w lights for tanks up to 24" tall.

You can place on sand or up into the LR.

In my 180 display tank which is also 24"
deep I have some clams on substrate and some in LR.

My purple ultra Maxima is sitting up on the rocks. His color looks like brown under the MH...is that normal?
The Deresa is still on the gravel and his colors apprear more brighter than before. Not sure of how to take them out to feed them. BUt when I do, I plan to position him on the rocks also.

Would like to have more information about the clams? Size, how long have you had them, what kind of lighting were they under before you got them.

I have had them for 2 weeks. The Ultra maxima is 2.5" and the Deresa is 3". dont know the lighting they were under before shipped to me.

When in doubt about what kind of lighting they were under it is always best to start them off on the substrate and slowly move them up. When you get some clams again, ask the shipper of LFS about lighting and water condition so you will have better idea how to acclimate.

I think you will be fine without taking them out of the tank to feed. Just feed you tank with some Dt's.

IME, I keep a 3" Maxima close to the bottom on some of the LR. I've had it for over a month now and it looks very good. Lots of color and movement when "scarred". I have a 250w MH 10k with 4 VHO (24") VHO Actinics for a total of 550w, all on a custom made tank 30" high (70gl.) I feed Kent phyto. 3 time a week (30 ml.) and I dont have any idea if its enough but I keep a close eye on it!! In the past I lost 2 Maximas, among other reasons, I'd say mostly because of bad lighting, only having 300w of VHO lighting on a 30" high tank.
