DIY CF spiral light fixture for FOWL

Hello, Anyone seen the threads in the main forums about using the CF spirals to create a fixture. Ive seen about 10 and they all seem to work pretty well. I saw one a while ago that was a 6 foot fixture and the guy went into pretty good detail and had tons of pics but I cant find it. Any way, Ebay has bulbs that give off 1750 lumens at 7k temp. Any thoughts??

Oh btw those bulbs are 23watt but are 100 watt equivalent, there are others that are 25watt - 400watt equivalent but give no specs other than voltage? any way to find out how many lumens they emit?

No body has any thoughts on whether or not this is a good or bad idea? or any info on other bulbs?

Your going to have a algae battle you don't want. You would be better off going the way dan said or depending on the size tank you have you can get higher spectrum t8 and t12 bulbs.

thanks for the info, but those who have done this already, will attest that as long as nitrates and phosphates are kept at ideal levels algae will not be a problem. We also have a phosphate reactor just sitting around we could use.

y not just get a cheap 2 bulb nova extreme?

We have a Hamilton reef light for the tank. Using a t5 t8 t12 or halides seems like such a waste for a system that will only house fish. This type of fixture would more than likely be just as bright as t8s and t12s and use far less energy. but that is not the issue, neither is expense. Just trying something different. Thought it would be fun to try and see what it will look like. Im really just looking for info on how to better create the fixture and or reasons that it may be harmful to the system and the fish and how to avoid those dangers. Thanks for the insight keep em coming plz
