Diy "Halo" moonlights for Kessil leds!!!

Nice!!! Great idea!!!
Love this!!

How long have you had these running? I run my Kessils at 100% during a good part of the day and I know they put out a lot of heat... have you had any problems/concerns with the heat of the Kessil messing with the LEDs or the way they are attached? (as in melting, smoke, etc)

Not my original idea, got it from OP , just used a different LED and then tweaked it, which is what this forum is about.

Been running for a couple of months, my kessils run 100% both channels and they are maybe 100F at most , very cool running, maybe your fan needs cleaned ? As I could not melt wax with mine.

I just wonder if my fish think they are on a different planet ? Being 2 moons ?
And I allready built this set up for a local reefer who did not have any electrical skills, actually enjoy these type of projects, and it looks so clean.

My fans probably do need cleaned lol.... They don't run super hot I've just noticed the heat that does come off the bottom by the lens I didn't know if it was hot enough or not to mess with them that's why I was asking :)

Both ideas from the OP and the halo are awesome. I'm getting my husband to do this!!!

You will always have some type of heat from high wattage leds. This is completely normal.

just bought some Kessils. Im going to try and make these. Any more info on the wiring of the a/c adapter to the angel eye? pics? Model of adapter from rat shack? Thanks for the help.

wow great idea. but is it just me in thinking for the price of these lights they should come with moon lights?
dont get me wrong the Kessils are sleek looking lights and I have been thinking about them for quite some time. just think for your hard earned money they should have just included it.

but brilliant DIY nonetheless!

I'm considering something similar for my kessil. Are these solutions still working out for you guys months later?

rckrzy1 how is the angel eye halo actually attached to your kessil? Do they come with adhesive backing?

I'm sure there's a line of people wanting to do this. Had I realized I wouldnt be able to do moonlights, I prob would have purchased the Radions. I am tagging along to see if anyone else has good solutions such as these!

I like the OP set up a lot. I really like the halo light set up. It sounds like you got the ones on a black PCB. How did you attach the board to you Kessils?

I think the ones on the PCB have a peel and stick backing on them - curious to see how they are working after a while.

Also - can these be run on an 8v if they are too bright at 9v or 12v

what color LED's did you use?
I just ordered one to test it out. Will try to hook up to the apex - just not sure how yet :)

Tagging along as this is my biggest complaint about my Kessils. Being topless now I dont have somewhere to hide small leds for the moonlighting...

I added the angel eyes to my kessil a160 and I'm really very happy. I used double sided foam tape to attach it to the light. I got the 60mm for the a160 in blue and paid slightly more to get it in a black trim here
This is the switch I got to use with it here and I plugged it into a timer.

I have it set to come on a few minutes before my lights cut off so that when they do there is no flash.

It works super well with the kessil the way it dims. It looks like a natural part of the cycle and when the power is cut to it it doesn't just cut off suddenly. The angel eyes actually ramp down too, though it is quick, I like it better than being a harsh cutoff.

I don't know about the strip light but the angel eyes cut off at 7. 7.5 is so dim that on my 20 tall I can't tell there's any light at all in the tank unless I make the entire house dark. I use it on 9 for my 20 tall. At 12 over my tank it appears to be equal to the kessil a160's lowest setting before it turns off.

Seacrabrun can you post a picture of your light please? Wanting to see the inside diameter of the halo in relation to the housing bezel.
