DIY Live Rock Meet

I was thinking about hosting a meet at some point, and the topic could be DIY Live Rock. I would gladly supply all the materials needed, as making your own rock isn't very expensive. All who are attending would have the chance to make a couple rocks with their choice of shapes to take home with them and cure and eventually add to there tanks.

All who are interested please let me know and I'll start getting the supplies that we'll need.

I am thinking possible March time frame, or even April.

Many Thanks! you John for helping to put together a meet...... this sounds great, I will be there... let us know if there is anything at all that could be brought... I like the idea of the colored sand from Matt... what type of sand is this Matt... ? are these like free formed by hand or put into some sort of mold type thing?

sounds like fun... please let me know of the date and time for sure so I can post it out there

Hey, count me in! Let me know when and where and if there is anything I could bring / contribute.

I'm curious, what are the basic ingredients?

Interested in live rock project

I would like to make live rock also. Please let me know where and when. Thank You......

We'll be using portland cement mixed with crushed oyster shell, and we'll be using play sand for the rock mold. I am covering all supplies. As of right now, I'm looking at April. I'll keep everyone updated.

I'll bring a tote , bag of coarse aquairum sand, some black sand, and some rubber gloves to make caves. I have already set aside for the meeting. Can you tell I am pumped up for this interesting meet.

I saw this on a thread on tanks and thought it would be useful info.

The Steve Doheney tank pic is great. I made some caves using large LF supported by smaller LF in the corners. But what he has done opens up a lot more options.

The gears will be turning in my head between now and this DIY meeting.

Never tried it but always wanted to. Thanks for the extra motivation. Attached are some links with a few different recipes. Some mention the use additional hardeners in the conrete. I've talked folks that have metnioned that their DIY rock broke down over time. Perhaps we could experiment with a few different recipes. Attached are some links for those who are interested.

I forgot to mention that you should bring your own styrofoam container to hold your rock mold, so that you can take it home with you.
