Well after all the reading and a new tank being set up i decided to make some rock as i cant afford any
the basic mix was
portland cement - 3
sand 1.5
Herculite no.2 casting plaster - 2
first thing i did was make a dry mix of the 3 ingredients.
then added water to make a creamy mixture at the bottom of the bowl i then poured it out onto a greased up bench so it was roughly 10mm - 25mm thick and let it set (the plaster help to speed up the setting time).
HAMMER TIME - so once it was set i used a hammer to smash up the dried up mixture so i had tons of tiny rocks, all around 10 - 25mm size.
from there i used the same mixture as before but made it a little thicker. so i can shape it without it falling out of shape. I then mixed in the broken rock pieces and mixed it up well.
Picked out a ball and placed on the greased up bench. and i was left with my rocks.
Ive started to play with pigments, mainly red so i can get a red/purple look to the rocks. Ive also been making corner panels to sit on the base of the tank in a corner. Ill uipload some picture of them once there dry.
