I was told to run 2 new wires in my house for my tanks & was told to get a DJ box.

How does this DJ box work ?

From what i can make out it reads like it is a surge protector that plugs into the wall with on off buttons. Is this right ?

Can someone post some pictures of it frount & back ?

Thanks

Those are the ones I bought too. There are many different brands, but they all work the same from what can see and have heard.

I think mine are American DJ, but I have seen DC-07's (?) and Chauvet as well.

I saw a thread here where a box was made & they had alot of wall outlets in it as well as the DJ Box. Why did they need all the wall outlets. I was thinking they had the wall outlets hook up into the DJ Box.

I wish i could find the thread.

I'm not sure about that other thread you're talking about, but there are a number of possibilities, I think. maybe it's just because switches weren't needed for all devices...or perhaps a load issue...or maybe the person was using a controller and only needed so many other devices that are not already controlled, on switches.

I have 2 Amer. DJ 8 channel switches, and frankly, I don't need everything on switches...and could have gone with one switch and a regular power strip. The utility of having my emergency airpump or my top off unit on switches is less valuable than having something like my return pump or skimmer on a switch.

The outlets on the back are also somewhat close together (like on regular powerstrips), and it's hard to utilize all of the outlets if you have a couple transformers or x10 modules on the strip.

I don't regret getting two switches at all...but now that I'm thinking about adding a controller (with a dedicated power strip unit), I will end up having very few things, if any, plugged into that second switch box.

you could sell me that extra one ;)

:) -- yeah, but then, I'd have to build a new box for the electrical...maybe when that happens ;)

That's a great thread- thanks for posting it bkwudzjeep....I guess another reason that I didn't mention (for the use of both outlets and switches) is to have 'double control' of some items...not something I considered, but I'm sure it has its uses.

Also, if anyone is wondering, you can get these switches at your local music/guitar store- I got mine at Guitar Center. Same price that I found it for on ebay at the time...I have no patience some times!

If you are looking at Melev's pic on the first thread, each/most outlet is coming from the back of the DJ Power Switch and feeds an outlet. The outlets are then used to mount timers. The reason for this is each timer plugged directly into the back of the DJ would cover up two outlets.

Hope that makes sense.

David
