Do I have enough light?

I'm sure you guys are sick of questions like this, but I really must ask..

On my tank I have 6x96watt PCs. The tank is 155 gallons. The tank is 24" deep with a 3" sand bed. I was wondering if I could keep a Desera or even a Squamosa with this. Would either of these do well with this lighting? If not, do you think "tricking" one of these clams, and putting it in a container of sand somewhere within 12" or so or the surface would work or is the lighting just not enough?

I know there are people out there that say they can keep these clams with PC, but I still think MH is necessary for good health. I just don't think it's enough light.

in my opinion, the lighting just isn't going to do it, although you'll hear about 3 or 4 people chime in with "they're doing fine in my friend's pc lighting," what you don't hear is the 300-400 people that got dead clams, I'd wait for halides

Really I havent heard of many deseras or squamosa's that werent doing well under PCs.. (maximas and others are a completely different story) it was more a question if I have enough watts.. I've seen plenty of gorgeous clams under PCs, and I thought these were fine under PCs, I just dont know if I have enough.

Anyone else? Success or failed attempts of people who have actually tried this are welcome.

I think I'll also post this in the reef discussion forum as it seems quite faster over there. I'd like to see what more people have to say about this, but I'll definintly keep your responses in mind.

I had a Crocea grow from a 3" specimen to 5" under 4x96W and 4x65W pc's in my 120gal tank, I had him about 5" below the surface of the water. The clam had great extension and it didn't seem like it was growing until I saw a picture of it when I first got and it grew about 2-3 inches from the pictures I took about 10 months ago.

Just as an update, after much thinking, I've decided to forget about getting a clam. They're pretty, but even a 50/50 chance isnt worth killing one of these beauties. I'll wait several years instead when I can get MH :) .

anydamnthing,

If your clam grew more than a 1/2 inch in that time, it's not a crocea.

Fast-growing croceas grow less than an inch a year - in the wild, under sunlight with unlimted food.
