I have two mollusks that I believe to be whelks in my reef tank.
Both the body and siphon are a black and white "leopard spot" pattern. The siphon turns all black towards the tip and the very tip is all white. It also has two antenea that both have white tips. I think that they came in on FL LR.
Recently I have noticed several bare areas on my LR where the coralline algae has been completely eaten off the LR.
Today I noticed a whelk that has been on the bare area of the LR all day.
Is the animal I described a whelk?
Are the whelks the source of my problem or were they just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Should I remove these from my reef.
Thanks,
Brian
