Are these skimmers sump style units?
If so do they sit in the sump or are the supposed to hang on the sump?
Do you know the min. water level for them?

They sit in the sump. They work in a water height from 3.9"- 11" 9010 is the best value, 9005 does not come delivered for in sump use and additional accesories have to be purchased. They are convertible from in tank to in sump use and the 9005 is only equipped for in tank use. They sit in the sump BTW, they have 4 suction cup feet. I should have them in about 2 weeks. I was told my first ones will ship next week but be aware the manual may be really bad, I had no chance to proofread it, we had to get it done. In a couple months we will revise it.

Roger, how about the 9015? Is it sump ready with all accessories like the 9010?

How about its dimensions and expected availability?

Thanks

James

The 9015 is the same, delivered for in tank or in sump, only the smaller 9005 is tank only as delivered. The dimensions for the 9015 are 4.9" by 4.4" by 18.8". The 9010 is shorter, 16.8".

I will have probably 10 of each model in a couple weeks. I expect these will all be sold already. I could get as many as 20 though and then some would be available.

It's a consulation prize :) Seriously it is the name of the pump we use, it is a 22W motor with a special venturi that makes a very fine mist of bubbles at the ratio of about 1 part air to 1.5 parts water. I call it the consulation prize because Hydrofoamer was my name for the new skimmer, Claude came up with DOC Skimmer, DOC skimmer won and so they chose Hydrofoamer to be the name for the pump.

Well I ordered a 9010 and I'm going to try it out in my son's aquarium. The small foot print is what drew me to it. I don't suppose you have a picture of it?

Hi Roger,

I'm considering the 9010 or 9015 for a 200g reef (170g tank + sump) that is in the planning stage. It will probably be more oriented towards SPS, but that's not certain.

A limiting factor for me is the height since my sump area will only be 22" tall x 48"L x 24"W. I see the measurements above for the 9010 and the 9015, but how much additional space will I need to remove the skimmer cup on each?

If I used the optional blow off riser, how much space would I need for the complete unit plus room to remove/clean the blow off riser?

I've never used a blow off riser before, how often do they need to be clean? I'm assuming about the same as a traditional riser/cup?

Assuming my cabinet can accommodate the 9010 or 9015, which would you recommend for a 200g SPS system, i.e. about 170g tank plus sump?

Just got my TS21 Kit (2 x 6000 plus 7095) yesterday :=)

In either case you will need about 5" to comfortably remove the cup/collector

The 9015 is rated for 237.6 gallons of SPS. 396 gallons of fish and softies. 158.4 gallons of jam packed fish and SPS.

Hi, where can I get info on this new line of skimmers? I can't seem to find any pix on the Tunze website or the typical vendors. Looking for something for a 90 SPS, maybe the 9010?

If you go to Tunze.com the new catalog can be downloaded. On the first page with the flags for chose your language it is in the bottom left corner.

Boy that 9010 looks really interesting. 650LPH is impressive, I think it's a really fairly priced unit. Is there a way to control the water intake independant of the air intake?

Can you explain the Foam Extraction Unit though (9020.140 for $95.28)? Is it a drain? Do you use in instead of the collection cup?

It is just a drain used instead of the collection cup. The 9015 would be a better buy if you want that part because it is included. You can only control the air.

Hmm, I looked at the 9010 and the 9015 in the US version of the catalog (pages 40-42) why is the 9010 rated for 264G while the 9015 is rated for 396G? The air & water input appear to be the same, the 9015 is just a couple inches taller. It just seems like an awfully big jump for 2" of height but no other differences that would affect performance.

Also the catalog doesn't mention that the 9015 comes with this accessory.

And just to confirm, the 9010 and the 9015 both come standard with the DOC skimmer extension set - foam riser (9005.400).

Sorry for all the questions, I'm really interested but the catalog isn't very clear what these come with.

The 9010 and 9015 have the same pump and thus the same max flow capacity, however if you raise the air intake to that max level on a 9010 you will just get water so the 9015 allows you to do this. This also means you can upgrade a 9010 to a 9015.

To be honest, while I have read the entire catalog, I read it like a proofreader looking for errors and not like a shopper. I know in the planning stages the 9015 was going to include a cup and the foam riser but perhaps this changed. I will try to get a definite answer soon.

Thanks Roger. I think it sounds like a great skimmer but I just need to make sure I get the right one - and make sure I don't spend extra money on accessories I need or don't need.

I like the 9010/9015, I'd just like to see what parts come with what.

David
