does Calcium Carbonator work?

Has anyone used Calcium Carbonator from Ecoreef in their tank, and did it work? I don't see how one additive can maintain alk and calc, but the proprietor of the local store insists that it does. Said that they use it in all of their service tanks, and they do have a lot of them under maintenance.

Calcium acetate will add both calcium and alkalinity in the ratio that they are consumed by corals. You could check to see what's in that product. It's very similar to dosing Kalk mixed with vinegar.

You might be able to find a reference or two in older threads, but I haven't heard much about any calcium acetate product.
