Dogface Puffer question

Why does my puffer change colors? Also I noticed white rings all over his body then it went away. Should I be concerned? Thanks

Mine does this all the time--I heard it means they are upset. If so, mine is always upset! It could also be camoflauge since mine usually does it when he is resting in the rocks rather than swimming. I have had him for over three years and he has done this from day one. He is active and eats very well, so I am assuming he is fine. Be sure to keep empty hermit shells in the tank for him to munch on. Their teeth never stop growing and need something to keep them manageable.

I believe the colors change depending on mood. My Dogface is a brownish-white, and the color fluctuates sometimes to all brown and sometimes to white. Sometimes I noticed he turns whitish when he is closer to the sand.

Just make sure you Dogface is happy and his needs are taken care of. Keep him on a varied diet. While mine loves any prepare frozen food, he also loves to eat seaweed. When I put in a clip for the other fish, my Dogface wants in on the action also and eats quite a bit of that as well. Sometimes he gets it stuck between his teeth, and it's fun watching him trying to get it out.

Mine is in an 80g FOWLR. I doubt they are reef safe because they nibble on everything in order to keep their teeth maintained. Puffy loves to chew on rock and shells.

Mine gets these spots from digging in the sand... Seems to be fine he has been doing it for years. And work not recommend in a reef because will chew on everything. Took chunks out of my soft coral and destroyed a monti cap.
