Dosing Iodine to new salt water

So, I have come to the conclusion by testing and dosing that my tank seems to consume about 5-6 drops per day of Lugol's iodine. I do scheduled automatic water changes every day with my Apex. I was curious if anyone does, or if I could add the appropriate amount of iodine directly to my new salt water storage tank to compensate for the daily consumption rate. Has anyone attempted this yet?

Thats a lot. How many gallons is it? I think doing a daily water change is what is stripping it.

I have a 120 (about 77-80 G actual water volume) and only need to dose 3-4 drops a week.

It's 300 gallons. And I only do 4 gallons per day of water changes.

I don't think the iodine will keep while being diluted and sitting in your holding tank.

Try this. Take some newly mixed water and put it in a water bottle. Add some iodine to it so it registers on your test kit. Test it right away then again in 24 hours. This can be a starting point.

Or maybe someone who does it that way will chime in.

That's a good idea! I'll just put some new salt water in a 5 gallon bucket and test it daily and see what happens.

I run iodide in my mixed reef at NSW amount of .03-.06.
Iodide is used by leathers, macroalgae and gorgonians and may help shrimp molt.
In my 70g, that amounts to 1ml per day, it is being consumed without water changes however water changes of course can lower the level.
