Dosing top off water

I know that this has probably been discussed to death but checking the past couple of pages i didn't find anything. I'm wondering if it would work to mix in different chemicals and have them added gradually with my top off water. I use an auto top off and have a spare pump that i could leave run in the top off water container to keep the chemicals suspended. I figure if i can determine how much i'm topping of per day, i can simply calculate that amount of chemical to add to the top off water. Let me know your thoughts or other places to look

thanks

Some chemicals can be dosed that way. The most common approach would be to use limewater to add calcium and alkalinity. It's also possible to add one part of a two-part system, but not both.

What chemicals did you have in mind? Most shouldn't require a pump in the topoff container.
