i have a small (about 2 inch) smasher that looks similiar to a G. smithi except his meral spots are white with sort of purplish border. does this sound like one you're familiar with? i think he came in on a piece of florida LR.

If the dactyl heels ( the part of the raptorial appendage that he strikes with) are deep blue,it is probably Neogonodactylus curacaoensis. This species is found throughout the Caribbean and generally lives below 10 m. There is a picture of one that I took in Florida. (http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/aquarius/behavior.html). The body color is varible, but the color of the dactyls is not.

nope, the dactyl heels are green like the rest of the mantis. only the very ends are pink. actually, he looks quite a bit like the green mantis pictured on the same link that you posted. i'll try to get a picture of him posted to give u a better idea.
