drilling tank and installing bulkheads

I have been looking at moving up to a larger tank but I am constantly running into good deals that are not reef ready. I have read some stuff about drilling tanks (which sounds rather scarey to my) and I was wondering if anyone had experience with (and equipment for) drilling tanks and installing bulkheads? Is it smarter in terms of weighing cost against dependability just to buy a tank that is reef ready?

While I have you reading, does anyone have or know of a good deal on a tank around 90 gallons that is reef ready?

I might have a RR 90, stand, hood and sump for sale in a couple of months but I still don't know yet.

I had Baker Glass drill my 40 breeder and built my own overflow. The thing you need to watch out for is tempered glass is not drillable. You can get bulkheads local at Steinhouse supply or order them online at various places. This is a good one:

I found a pretty good thread in the DIY forums here that lays the process out nicely.

I was looking so I could drill a hole near the bottom side of my 29 I'll be using as a sump for my frag tank to install an Ice Probe chiller. My problem with it is, I don't know if the tank is all tempered or not.

Edit: Here's the thread

Drilling yourself is not too hard if you can find a diamond tipped hole saw or a dremel. I used the latter on the 75 next to the 125.

I wouldn't take the chance because if u have not done this before, it could be costly, either during drilling or after you filled up the tank. Its just not worth DIY. Wayne from Waynesworld, has drilled a couple of tanks, you should pm. He is a pretty cool and helpful guy.

Theres nothing to it....Just take it slow and keep the bit cool and its all good. Get the bits from Lau on E-bay for next to nothing...

Fishdoc,
Am I to assume that now that you got accepted to vet school that the 90 RR is more likely to be for sale in a couple of months? :)
