I want to have my new 90 corner tank drilled for a closed loop system but I cant find anyone that will do it.I can buy a glass hole bit for about $40.Is it difficult to drill without a drill press??Can it be done with a hand drill without the risk of damaging tank??Any input would be greatful. Thanks,Rick

Just make sure its not tempered. I just blew out a 75gal that was suppose not tempered. It was a perfecto and I called the company. They said that only the bottom was tempered for this tank. I guess they were wrong. I got the tank for free so no real loss but a real bummer. Now I'm scared to attempt it again, especially on a new tank. Since I got the tank used maybe it really wasent a 75gal. I asked the rep only about the 75 gal. Maybe it was the 70. I should have taken measurements and been more clear with the rep. Either way drilling voids the warrenty. I don't think that I can get anything back from them for it.
Lesson learned: check and recheck to make sure its safe to drill.

thanks fishtk.Have you tried this personally???If so do you do it with the dremel at its lowest speed or fastest??

you can buy glass hole saws on ebay pretty cheap. I bought my 2" bit for 15.00 I think. As long as you keep the glass wet to avoid it from heating and cracking you should have no problems. Lots of people have done it and the only problems I can recall reading about were when people tried drilling tempered glass.

Yes you have to go slow I did it on my 16 gal for refugium for a over flow.

ebay bits. We have now drilled 6 holes so far with no degrade in performance and he had great service. I needed it in a hurry and he sent it at my expense of course much faster, but was able to give me conformation within minutes of paying that it had shipped.
