I am in the process to plumbing my Oceanic 72g bowfront with a left corner overflow. I just have one quick dumb question for now - When plumbing the sump should the drain or return side of the sump be closest to the overflow?
Not necessarily either. Take your pick. The fewer 90 degree turns the better the flow but that can be compensated for by increasing the PVC size. Believe it or not most pumps like a little head pressure.
Or you could use flex pipe and have virtually no 90's in it. I doubt that the width of that sump is going to add that much head difference no matter what end you put it on, just thought you might like to plumb it going pretty much straight up.
Your drain line should be as far as possible from the return pump intake to keep bubbles out of the return pump unless you are going for the Jacuzzi style biotope.
I don't think it matters. My 90g left hand rear corner overflow came with the return pipe as the closer one. But I used both pipes for drain pipes instead.
