Duncanopsammia axifuga AKA Whisker Coral,

they are very interesting corals. i bought a head a few months ago and they have quickly multiplied into 6 heads. mine has an intense green to dark green stripe pattern around the mouth and the tentacles are light green. they make an excellent addition to any tank.

those are cool. Where did you get yours dusty? Hum... wolverine living in Columbus. That must be difficult.

Here my frag from 1 month ago. I'll take a pic today to show how fast it grows when fed.

When I called earlier this week, Phishybusiness was selling them for $100/polyp

it looks like a small anenome. nothing i would consider worth 120 but thats why everyone is different.

They are so expensive because they are nonexistent in the US market. Before Phishy got a colony of it, you had to find someone growing it here to get a frag. The only pieces that came into this country many years ago where from collectors or researchers, and then I'm not even sure they had the proper permits to get them here. So I have no idea how Phishy got their hands on one.

I think Borneman or Paletta had some of this and passed it around over the years. I found a piece of it this February, and I agree, it can grow quickly with proper feedings.

When I got mine, it was one whole head, and half a head.
Here it is less than a month later. The half head is almost whole.

There are also two new heads on the other side, making a total of 6 heads.

Haha... good one. That's pretty much why I said I wasn't broken hearted about not being able to find one. At this point I'm less interested in having one of everything and more interested in having lots of color whether it's pink micromussa or green nephthea .

Unfortunately these high temps are not doing wonders for my sps coloration. Just another reason to love the lps :mixed:

yes its a rough life being a UM fan in columbus. but i got use to it back when i was still a little kid lol.
i got mine from serdar at phishy. mines got a lot brighter green to it then the ones above. no they're alot better then majanos. better color, no stinging, they grow just as fast, and its hard to see in the pics but mines heads are pretty large. maybe alittle smaller then a golf ball.

They can be quite colourful even without much actinic -

And I just bought a nice yellow one yesterday for A$20. You don't see the yellow ones too often. No pics yet.

isjg- thats very similiar to the morph i have but mine doesnt have that light circle around the mouth. mine has the same pattern all the way to the mouth.
id love to see a pic of that yellow one. we'll have to make some kind of business deal to smuggle me a frag of it over here lol.

Wow..now yours look really happy! What's your secret? It almost resembles elegance.

Keep everything else away from them is the main thing. They're very sensitive to other corals and even algae. Once something encroaches on the "skin" on the stalk, I've found it will quickly recede back to the head and the head will start to die off.
I've lost the odd head to anchor's sweepers and encroaching ricordia so you have to make sure they have room around them.
They also like to be fed, I feed mine every few days.
