EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

I can't say for certain that the drive shaft screw is or isn't responsible for noise but I highly doubt it. Either way there would be advantages to a drive shaft screw with threads only at the end that we recognize and thus we've been looking into it.

would anyone buy this pump to go on a 20 gallon are even a 55. if not why. if most people upgrade tank size then most should buy this pump that will also upgrade with them.

to say this pump is more versital, that is yet to be seen. yes you can control the throttle. but what else can be done at this time. i know the controller will be coming out next year, and im sure i will buy it to controll my two pumps more randomly. but as of now we don't have a controller. the battery backup is a great option for those with out the need for a generator.

my first question that started all of this was the need for some type of deflector to steer the water in a more random fashion. as it stands this pump flow in two directions.

maybe when the controller comes out it will allow the pumps to alternate and ramp the power up and down randomly. that to me would be worth the $350 plus the controller price.

If I may ask, how many are you guys manufacturing a month? I'd like to know if there is a long wait with the online places or do they regularly have them but fly off the shelves sort of quick. I'm aiming for around the date the controller comes out.

FWIW, I use the Vortech on a 42 hex reef aquarium. It works very well on this setup.

You answered your own question regarding the versatility of the Vortech. The broad flow pattern (virtually 360 degrees) that's infinitely controllable from 30% to 100% isn't duplicated by any powerhead, and eliminates the need for a deflector. Also, the fact that the motor, and heat, are out of the water and it can continue to run AUTOMATICALLY in a power outage contribute to its versatility and uniqueness.

You seem to have a lot of issues with the Vortech pump. Do you own one? If so, why did you buy it? Are you REALLY in the aquarium industry?

At this point I believe that you're either thick as a brick or a troll. I'm guessing the latter.

I disagree with the Seio's being junk. I've had the 1500 and 1100 since it was released with zero issues. I think they are a great alternative for affordable pumps. Of all the people I personally know, I've not heard of one with ANY issues at all. However, we do clean them every few months. Don't burn the Seio because the RIO was junk. :)

Seio is just a Rio positioned on its side. Use at your own risk.

You can read a new horror story about Taam pumps just about every week on the various forums. Some people get lucky for a while; others don't. Personally, I have too much invested in my aquariums to take that kind of risk. Luckily my Rio disaster occurred in a water-change reservoir and not in my aquarium. You get what you pay for.

I'll agree on the RIO's but not on the Seio's. I'm not here to start a debate but just pointing out that they do work well on a budget. I've heard as many issues with these powerheads as I have with the Seios. Only difference is these are newer and constantly being fine tuned and Taam not doing anything about it.

I'll agree the old RIOs are complete and utter junk. Just because something is expensive or lack thereof doesn't mean it is better or not.

I would. The flow would be sweet in a 20 or 55. Just turn the pump down to your liking. A vortech would provide real nice swirling current in a tank that size for sps frags especially.

yes i do have these as i have stated many times and i do love them.

and yes i am in the aquarium business, thus leads me to be more objectional to different tanks and there needs to to spend money.

but as i can see no one on this thread wants to be objectional in anyway towards this product.

so as i take everyone opionion of the vortec, i come to one conclusion. that this pump is the best thing since sliced bread and there is no way to improve on it.

i believe every product has its pros and cons. obviously the vortec only has pros.

To me, it's a solid product that doesn't put a hole in your pocket.

A lot of club members have the Seio in their tanks, and a number of them complain how they don't restart after being powered down. Solution? Same as the Rio: Hit the side of the pump to get it to run again.

key words "turn the pump down." why put a $350 pump in if a pump 1/4 the cost will do.

can't no one tell me this is the only pump that will create a "swirling current" in a tank.

would you also buy a return pump that puts out 3000 gph, put it on a 20 gallon and cut the flow down?

FWIW

It's a new product. Of course, there is room for improvement, an ajustable single & dual outlet deflectors would be real cool. The biggest draw back, as I see it, is that initial flow is perpendicular to glass, period.

That is why, for now, I am teamimg the MP40 with Tunze, I'll wait to see product development before comiting to Vortech only. I like being able to angle flow.

I love buying American. ( no offense Germany :) )

That said, a 75g with great flow, and now a 120 with great flow and I can use all these in my 260 when it is up and running, with GREAT FLOW!

All in all, a great investment.

yes.

deedeedee

Interesting. I do see the word used occasionally but I have never been able to find it in a dictionary. I do find the word "objectionable" and for the life of me I cannot figure out how it fits into the sentence you use it in:

and yes I am in the aquarium business, thus leads me to be more objectional to different tanks and there needs to to spend money.

Does it mean that you would be more OBJECTIVE in analyzing different tanks? Maybe you can enlighten me?

what in the world does this have to do with the pump? are you so content with the pump that you have nothing to say that may improve the pump and it capabilities.

if i didn't use a word correctly in this post please let me know, as that may benifit someone somehow.

I have certainly been quite vocal about this pump to say the least, and have spent a great deal of my own time & money as well as Eco-Tech's time and money working on the issues I have encountered with the Vortech pump.

Everyone has there own take on what is a good value and clearly you think the Vortech is over-priced and over-powered (based on your posts) but to say that no one in this thread wants to be objective toward this problem is rediculous.

There have been many posts herein working towards the common objective of improving these pumps so that the production models perform well in a variety of situations encountered outside Eco-Tech's lab.

I think you need to back up a bit. I'm pretty sure all of us think this is a super great product. You are coming off as a fanboi. I understand your support on the product and I think it is great you are willing to spend your time and money to help improve it. To me that is very nice of you. Sometimes having something first means seeing it through to the final refined product. That's nothing new. I don't see why there is a need to hammer on someone's vocabulary or the use of it. To me, it is slightly childish.
I'm really looking forward to getting one however, I don't mind waiting till some of the issues are resolved and the controller is available.

Melev,
I had that same issue at first. After cleaning them with vinegar, I've never had that issue again on both of them. Kind of funny but yes it was aggrivating at first. I also recently put them on a UPS and that prevents power outages from cutting them off. However I think the way the UPS current works, it puts them in a lower speed because they rattle like crazy :).

Once again, please don't mistake how I'm coming across as being negative to Ecotech because I'm planning on buying 2. Tunze I don't care for because of their size and price. That's why I did the Seio. About the same size but cheaper. Just less flow.

I'd still like to receive an answer to my previous question on do I need to reserve one in advance or are they readily available within a week or so. If it takes two months to get one, I'll put my request in to meet the timeline of the newer fixes and controller.

Thanks again.
