EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

Matt,
Thanks for the post. I think the point you make about some initial bumps in the road being inevitable and that they were handled by all accounts, above & beyond expectations are worth repeating. That's why EcoTech's pairing with IceCap made sense for EcoTech and the end user. They provided innovation and problem solving while we keep the wheels of change spinning.

Fortunately most customers are happy and we are barely keeping up with demand. Eventually products stand or fail on their performance. I have two and love them. I think most hobbyists would like to own them also.

Andy

Interesting post Andy. So am I to understand that it is IceCap's position to encourage Matt to pick on your clients?

Perhaps I should post the ENTIRE paper trail of emails and PMs between myself and Eco-Tech regarding ALL of the issues I have had with my Vortechs? How many would that be? I am guessing right around 100 or so...There are some real juicy ones to be sure. I particularly like the ones that contradict each other and/or officially released info.

Considering all the the people who contact me regarding problems they are having with their Vortechs, I seriously doubt that it is just a "handful" of people who have had problems with the MP-40.

Many tiimes along this road I have been quite sorry that I designed my system around the Vortech, as the bumps as you call them have been rather detrimental to my hobby experience on the whole. And the only reasons why I have stuck with the Vortech are the way my system is built and the effort put forth by Eco-Tech to make things right.

I certainly don't appreciate your encouraging Matt since he has no basis in reality for his opinion. His opinion is worthless to those of us who have had such dire issues with the Vortech. We are trying to help each other, do some venting, and get the product line to rise to our expectations of IceCap products.

Maybe I should post a complete list of all those users that I know have had bumps? Or pics of my crazed tank? You clearly have no idea the pain I have endured as a fan of this technology and I have tried extremely hard not to get nasty about it, but when I see you post encouraging others to keep the complainers down, it really gets under my skin.

I particularly don't like the misinformation that has come down the pike during this saga, and let me quickly summarize just one of those events:

It was posted in this forum by an official IceCap/Eco-Tech representative that the battery backup could be used as a sort of interim controller, since it would turn the pump to 50% when power was cut to the unit. So I bought two and when they arrived, the instructions explicitly stated that repeated cycling would significantly diminish the battery power and life.

So, since you and Matt seem to feel that complaints are unwarranted, I would like to hear how you two would react to that situation. Grin and bear it because it's new technology? Oh golly gee, it's just $300, what's your problem?

Matt? I mean how dare I complain right? Nothing wrong here...just move along? How about sharing what you're smoking because I really need to calm down and not have to check each pump every time I go into my tank room to make sure it's running and not over-heating.

Yeah, you definitely don't complain. lol.....and when did I pick on you, lol?
*By the way...that lovely post was exactly the type I meant were best suited for a private conversation...I mean as you said they have been incredible with customer service yet you go out of your way to complain and wine.

And please keep your personal accusations to yourself, you have shown just the type of person I thought you were ;)

Oh, and I never said you can't complain...but you can't have your cake and eat it to ;)

1.Classy
2.Threaten Andy, brilliant and being a great customer towards a company you yourself said has helped you immensely all along the way.
3. So because my two vortechs have been flawless I don't know of any other users? I haven't heard of any problems? I haven't looked into those issues incase they happened to me?
Maybe you shouldn't run your mouth unless you know the whole truth as well ;)
4. Never once said you can't or shouldn't complain did I? I said out of a thing called respect you talk directly with Andy or Eco.
5. Do you think in all my time keeping I haven't had issues with expensive equipment? Of course I have, but out of respect I talk with the manufact. privately.

Do whatever you want, but if you are so disappointed and they don't work well for you....move on and sell them or whatever you want to do.

happy Reefing...hope I didn't hurt your feelings again.

Guys-

Everyone is on the same team here. Let's keep it PG and accept that some customers have had problems and some haven't. The good news is that far and large, people with problems aren't having them anymore.

More importantly, if someone has a problem rest assured that Dave or myself will be there to correct it.

There is a lot in store for the future.

From a first hand perspective I've seen the crazing on Jonathan's tank that was caused by the Vortech pumps. For that reason alone I would be very upset.

Do these pumps really cause crazing on a tank. What thickness of acrylic? Was the pump moved around alot? I have been using magnets to clean the class for a long time and never seen any crazing as a result.

Jon's case is the only case we know about where there was crazing below the VorTech units. It is impossible to determine at this point if they continue to cause crazing on his tank or if the crazing was caused during some point where the pump was not running optimally, something which has since been corrected. It is possible that the acrylic on his tank is particularly stressed, which makes it more susceptible to crazing.

It has nothing to do with the magnetivity. It has to do with ambient temperature and the way the motors generate heat. The acrylic is 3/4".

And for anyone following along, I would reiterate my support of getting a spare wet frame. IIRC it only cost $50 and it makes servicing/cleaning the wet end so much easier. I can pull one, replace it with a nice clean one, and then soak the dirty one for as long as I like without reducing flow in the tank. I rally encourage Vortech users to get a spare.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having spare parts on-hand. ETM quoted $100 for the wet side assembly. I think you got a deal because of all the problems you had :( .

All-

Sorry to disappoint but the price on the wet ends is $100. There was a time period where we were releasing them for $50 but we can no longer do that.

Best,

Tim

hahahahahahaaaaaa...well, I still think it's a good idea at $100. It just makes things a lot easier, and if there is some sort of shaft failure, it doesn't drop your flow while you wait for a replacement. I just realized that mine are coraline magnets and it was going to be an issue because sometimes it takes a while to soak them, and for me to get the time to replace it. This last one I let soak for a couple days, no harm no foul.

I do have one question though. I think because of all the small snails in my system, my props are getting dinged up a bit. Can we order spare props too? Maybe in titanium?

I looked at the prop in my Vortech and noticed that its just an Octura 1255 hobby RC boat propeller. Jonathan, maybe you can just go down the local RC hobby shop and pick up a replacement 55mm boat propeller. IIRC, they're about $8 each for plastic and $25 for stainless steel.
