Took some pics of my eels tonight. Figured I would share them with you guys. I have a Brazilian Dragon,Jeweled eel and what I believe is a Yellow Margin. Can anyone ID the yellow eel with Black spots? His teeth are very Menacing like a Hawaiian/Japanese Dragon and is definately a fish eater. Im leaning toward the Yellow Margin But I am not certain.

Nice eels! Interesting markings on the dragon. I usually see them with more spots and only have seen a couple photos with those markings :).

The unidentified eel looks like a stout moray, Gymnothorax eurostus. The yellow margin has a clear black spot over the gill and tends to be darker. The stout has really wicked looking teeth as you describe, too. Here's a link to one that looks like yours as an example: http://www.coralreefnetwork.com/stender/fishes/eels/stout2_small.jpg

Thanks Lukfox. I have never heard of a Stout Moray. I was thinking it was either a Yellow Margin or a Kidako. After looking at the pics it seems right on. According to one site I googled they only get around 45-50cm which is around 15-20" that seems small.

I highly doubt kidako, thought the colors are similar. Kidako has rough looking bands along the body, and I don't see that on yours from the pictures. I think you would know if you paid kidako prices anyways lol.

The stout is the most common moray in Hawaii, so I don't think it would be hard to find one (and it's then found in other places too). By common, these things are everywhere- at least where I've snorkeled. I've seen all sorts of colors on these guys. Their coloration is highly variable. Fishbase and a Hawaiian fish book I borrowed for a while says they get 24". Is that closer to the size of yours?

Mine is probably around 16". After seeing the pics Im convinced you are right on. Do you know how aggressive these eels are?

Sorry, I don't know how aggressive they are. I've never actually seen anyone keep one, which is odd because I think they are very cool eels since they're attractive and attain a smaller size. I guess you can tell me how it goes :). Do the eels have any other tank mates?

Not right now. I have had the Jeweled eel for about a year and a half. The other two eels I just Aquired the other day from a friend. This particular tank has been setup for only a few days as well. I used a 150 gallon Rubbermaid as my sump that has been storing about 400 lbs of live rock for about 7 months. This tank is temporary until I get my 600 up and going. I was only concerned with his aggression because I did not want to put an eel that is too aggressive into the 600 because it would be so hard to catch him. So far he has been pretty laid back, I actually got the BRAZ Dragon and the other eel from a friend who was taking his tank down. He had had them both for around 6-7 months.

The plan is to have Triggers,Large tangs,etc.... in with these three eels. I may buy a Hawaiian Dragon as well at some point. Only If I can find one for a good price and one that has been eating.

Nice tank! I have a Brazilian dragon moray and a zebra together with a few large-ish fish. I love the look of the BDM. While my zebra moray is sweet, the BDM is out a lot more.
