Electric Bill Shock !!!!

Between the A/C, the pool filter and the tank my electric bill doubled from last month.

$200+ to $400+..............Holy Crap !!!!!!!!!!!! :headwally:

Same here really sucks. Welcome to the world of reefing. Cutting into my tank budget at this point.

In an effort to reduce the effect of my pool pump on my bill I adjusted the schedule of it this year. In the past I've always run it for the 8 hours/day that the installer recommended. Following guidelines I found online I calculated that I could reduce this time to about 4 1/2 hours. I changed it to 5 hours/day and haven't had any problems. I may try 4 1/2 next year.

As a former pool/spa tech you can run your filter 1 hour before -during-and 1hour after you swim. 2 hours on non swim days as long as your chemicals are within the correct readings .

just the A/C and reef stuff puts mine up over 200.00 but my gas bill has been less than 20.00..

The gas bill goes up in the winter to 100.00 and the electric drops a 100.00..It evens out..

Just remember that we pay less in WNY than the west coast!! they pay a dollar or more per KWH than we do. I know a fellow reefer local to me that has a elec bill at least 100$ more than mine and we run about the same in reef equip. However I have a hot tub and central air added on top. (he doesn't) so.. who knows?!? I'm baffled @ the elec co charges. (estimations are horrible)

I have always cut it back to 4 hours toward the end of the season when the water cools down below about 78 and two hours just before I'm ready to close it but never thought it would be good when it's 85 - 90. Guess I'll be doing some experimenting. If I can cut it in half again on non swim days that would be a big savings. Thanks.

YW as long as your ph and "free" chlorine levels are ok you should be good. the only drawback would be extra vacuuming and net skimming.

Though it may be less expensive here than in the west it is twice as expensive as some places in the south. Always baffles me since we generate a lot of electricity from the upper niagara. Even more frustrating because we are forced to pay higher gas bills for heating to protect their pumps until they pull the ice boom in the spring.

don't feel bad we have a new power plant run by the INDEK corp and we didn't see a drop in our prices here . They explained it to us as Dresser Rand co uses the majority of our power and the rest is sold back to nat grid. :(

I agree, I just talked to my brother a few days ago and he lives in Memphis where the real feel has been near 120. He has an 1800 sq. ft. house and his gas bill was $150.

our RG&E bill for July was ugly.

Attempting to heat a pool with no solar cover on it is a prime example of evaporative cooling.
