Hi, I am finally setting up my 140 and looking for suggestions for the best DC return pump. Also looking for input on a skimmer. Sump will be in basement, so I need decent flow at about 12 feet of head height. This will be a coral tank with some fish.

If I were starting over again, and could fulfill a wish list, possibly a Neptune COR-15 Water Pump, which is rated to still get you about 200 gph at 12 feet. I'd also try a Maxspect Jump Skimmer SK400. I wish Eheim made a pump that could really do well at that height, I really like the brand.

Thanks, the skimmer looks nice. As far as return pump I am hoping to get 1000-1200 gph at 12 feet. Unless the current thought is most flow is by power heads and not sump turnover.

You can find stronger return pumps, although I have no experience with a pump that can hit up to 1200 gph at 12 feet. The control over placement and consistent strength achievable with powerheads always seemed like a better option to me as corals grew.
