Exactly 5 gallons in 5 gallon bucket

I thought I would share my results after measuring out 20 quarts from a measuring cup
Into
A standard saltmix 5 gallon bucket.....like the Instant Ocean 5g buckets.

MY results.....not yours....but MY RESULTS..... put exactly 5 gallons :
at a waterline 2inches below the very top brim of the bucket. +/- an 1/8th of an inch.

Does that line up with the little ridge on the outside? My hd buckets have a ridge the lid snaps onto, then a second about an inch and a half below that

I use the ridge on my HD buckets too. I think the 5 gallon mark is about 1 1/2" down from the top.

NOW- if you want the right mix for that 5 gallons get a small container of soup from the Chinese kitchen,
Clean after eating, a full to the brim container will get you there.
Salinity dependent of course, this will be 1.025

Idk.... My bucket is a bunch of old SeaChem & IORC buckets that have the same form factor.

Your Home Depot bucket could be diff....have diff wall angles.

Its not like we ever have to have an EXACT 5gal line +/- 0.5ounces or its certain death. Lol.

But its nice to be within a +/- 4ounces :)

I like my bucket from Lowe's, it's a 5g measure right. I had to add a 4g line but works perfectly. I use a bucket head shop vac from HD(got the idea here) and right at about 4g is where it will lose vac. It has made water changes soooo much easier and once I lose suction I know I have emptied enough. It's 45g tank and compensating for sand, rocks, plus overflow, I figure between my tank and sump I'm somewhere around 40g. I do this every week so there's my 10% weekly wc.
