My clam just expelled a "chunk" with byssal threads attached to it. Did it totally expell it's byssal gland or is it trying to regrow the byssal threads from scratch? Is it going to die?
I had to move it a few days ago because it was getting stung by my anemone. I cut the threads carefully at the rock. I moved it to a new location and it fell off the rock a few times. Today after it fell, I noticed that it has expelled a mass with the byssal threads attached to it. The bottom of the clam still looks fine and the clam is behaving normally. I have relocated it to a more secure spot so I won't have further problems.
