extension for Oceanic canopy

I have a 90g Oceanic tank w/ the stock canopy. Technically I can do MH's with it, but they will rest 1.5" above the waterline and would therefore require glass tops which I'm afraid will cook the tank.

I've seen several threads where people have built an extension for the existing canopy.

Anyone have any design pics/suggestions? I'm thinking of putting something where I can just set the original on top of the new setup so I don't damage the original canopy. (think 3 pieces of wood stuck together w/ the center one lower and forming a groove for the stock canopy. That's what I'm mentally imaging to build.)

Also, anyone know what stain will closely match Oceanic's "Medium Oak". I'm not looking for an exact match, just something close.

Thanks for the offer!! I did a RC search a few weeks ago and your canopy thread is actually the one that sparked my interest in a DIY project! Small world, 'aint it.

I'm considering the drop in idea b/c I'm not confident that (short term) I can match the Oceanic color scheme.

I know I am bring this up from the dead, but did you ever match the medium oak stain from oceanic?
