factors that effect polyp extension

I was wondering what factor effect polyp extension, reasons they close up tightly etc. WHat is normal polyp extension?

If your polyps retract it could be several things..........a nipping fish, red bugs, lighting, water quality.

Need more info. on the tank and its params to give you a better answer that is narrowed down.

It also depends on the coral. Some corals like Acropora millepora have longer polyp extension than others.
