Favorite Monti......

looked around and found an ok pic of my original frag...

Now this is another very interesting one I have. I got it as a frag almost 3 years ago. Can't remember what it was. It's shown signs of either Rainbow or Pokerstar like growth and colors. That is, until about 4-5 months ago. The polyp colors started then eventually turn all red with a blue base. I can understand if this was a small frag, but this thing is well over 3" across. Now the base is exhibiting shades of bright green on the vertical growth surfaces. This thing sure has me stumped.

You can see a small piece of the Pokerstar growing into it at the bottom right corner. It hasn't changed colors at all and it's being exposed to the same tank conditions.

Just beautiful RockyMtnReef. This might be a stupid question but why is it called True Undata and not just Undata ? Are there 2 different Undata ? I'm new to SPS :)

It's the name "they" gave it, there a lots of other undatas some with red and green coloration and others as well.

In new brinswick they don't name corals like they do here.

LOL we don't name corals like you do ? I wasn't aware of that. LOL

Well vendors In Canada don't really do all the elaborate naming as much although the name game may be moving north.

I know a couple vendors from Canada that is just what I've been told

It might just be the case GSMguy. But i think that we have a harder time getting nice SPS corals here. Can't get any Ora corals here. (New-Brunswick) Pretty much all my corals have been bought online :( I just bought a frag of Hispida Monti. I'll try to take a picture of it tomorrow. ;)

Thanks for the compliment (here is another shot that I think is kinda cool). The True Undata is a very specific coral from Tyree. As others have stated there are lots of other undatas out there (the Idaho Grape is an undata for example). That one happens to be popular because of the coloration and white polyps.

Interesting find Ian. They do look very similar. The only difference I can see is where the green comes in on these two pieces. And if that's their parent colony, then I have a diamond mind in my tank
