Fedding Question

So I finally got myself a mantis (Emerald) and have put the cirtter in it's new home (5 gallon). He seems to be loving it b/c he's just running around all over the rock and tank. I was wondering how often I should feed him live food. I have some ghost shrimp and fed him one today and he tore it up. I have heard to feed them live food once per week and then substitute with frozen food the other days. Would frozen mysis be a fine substitute? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!!

I would be more interested in a good feeding regime as well. Just set up a 10 gallon mantis tank...TBS hitchhiker.

I put a chunk of frozen shrimp in and it shoots right out and takes it back to its lair.

I feed my mantis pieces of krill/silversides and a hermit/snail about once a week.

My understanding is that its good to give them something to smash to keep there smashers strong. that is if yours is a smasher?

I use frozen krill or mysis. My N. wennerae will come right out and grab it (and give the tweezers a few whacks) if she's hungry. She doesn't seem to want to eat it every day. Also, I threw some Nassy snails in there for her to play with, she's been snacking on them. Fatten her up!

Gently tap the glass with your fingernail when you feed. Pavlovian conditioning is easy to apply here. If she's hungry and hears me tapping, first her funky eyes peek out of her hole at me, then she runs right atop her home rock and waits like a good little dog.
