Feeding Maroons

Good afternoon all! :) quickie question, I have a maroon clown only for a few weeks now, and Im having a really hard time getting her to eat ANYTHING but mysis shrimp. Ive tried...

formula 1 pellets (just lets them fall to the floor)
life line cubes
krill (not really for her but pieces float by and she doesent want them
formula 2 flakes (my clarki loved these, she hates them)
and I have a marine blend she'll pick thru to find the mysis...

Ive heard brine shrimp is nutritionless.... will her color and health stay ok without much besides mysis?

maggie :p

I would still give it some time, perhaps try to feed a little less mysis each time along with other food.

My pair are both pigs, they love Life Line (both kinds), krill, mysis, pellets, and anything else I throw in there.

I feed mine a home made brew of pellets, ground garlic, raw seafood (any kind I can find at the store). broccoli, and anything else I find that they should eat.

Mine love it and they get a variety at each feeding.

wow broccoli? lol that'll be the day. I guess mine is picky. healthy tho. Ill keep experimenting. Ive been wondering about this raw seafood at the grocery store thing.... what exactly do you buy and how do you prepare it for the fish? (like removing shell n such) I havent tried any of this yet, but i bet its cheaper than buying all this food that he wont eat lol

buy whatever is on sale. If you buy shrimp ask to smell it. sometimes they will bleach the shrimp to keep it looking good.

just just the 'cocktail shrimp'? i looked a lil yesterday. i dont eat seafood and know very little about it....

Wow, I've yet to find much of anything that has any meat in it my maroon won't eat. I bet yours will become a little less picky with time. I just got some of the freeze-dried cyclopeeze, and while the granules are too small to really serve as food for the fish, it seems to really encourage them to eat anything else that's put in the tank at the same time. I have a 6-line wrasse who's always been a pretty shy eater, but if I put in some cyclopeeze at teh same time as the other food, he'll show a great deal more enthusiasm.

hes still picky, i bought the formula 2 and if i break it up really really small he'll eat it, but any bigger its hermit food. so right now hes eating formula 2, mysis, and a marine cusine. gonna try grocery store shrimp next time im there but im sure he'll eat it, as long as its meat and no frilly algea or vegi in it lol

Do these eat dried nori sheets (algae). You may also try to soak the food in some garlic extract (a couple of drops not too much) which is a known atractant (should be in the spice aisle of your supermermarket, or buy Kent Garlic Xtreme (pricey)

Nori is about the only thing I put in the tank that my maroon won't touch. She's wild about formula two, but if it's just veggies, she may investigate, but never eats it. She's 100% carnivore.

*sigh* she/he feed all her formula 2 to her anemone today. so i threw in some mysis and she ate....

hm.. btw if there is only 1 clown in my tank is it a she or a he? there were two but the bigger beat up the smaller so much i took the smaller back. I like to think of it as a she ;)
