Well after almost 2 months and fear of death, he's come out for me to see. He's taken up right in front of the tank! I've been feeding shrimp pellets. He comes out and hammers them.

LOL! Yes that's what I meant. I've been looking for signs of him every day. I've got a couple Mollies in the tank and I've been dumping in shrimp pellets. I sit and watch for awhile to see if he will come out. I was leaving when I heard that snapping everyone talks about. He had come down out of a hole in the rock and was smacking the shrimp pellets. I was thrilled to say the least.:D

Yes it's pretty exciting, he came all the way out today. I even got to see the meral spots. They were black with a fine white ring. From everything I've read I'm guessing he's a Neogonodactylus oerstedii. Any other ideas. I did get him from Florida.

i'm always surprised by how long they can stay inside their burrow...i think i wrote elsewhere that one mantis i had stayed inside for two weeks...now that i've thought about it, i b think it was actually much longer....i remember being torn by whether or not to open the cavity to see if it had died inside...

i trained a small one once to feed on shrimp pellets that i handed to it by chopsticks....pretty cool.
