FINALLY!! Getting my own tank filtration room. (pics)

Well we've moved to our new home, and now all those things we reefers all said we would do if we could do it over, I get too. So what we did first was decide on where to put our tank, in the basement there was a weight room that we finally decided on seeing how I wanted to do something really big with the filtration and have it where we could expand if we wanted to.

Here is the weight room.

ok what's cool first about this room, is behind me there is a huge picture window that you can look out or in from the theater room, which I'll will show pics of that later. So you can view the tank wether or not you or in the room or not.

so first I had to start plumbing for a sink, lord knows we all want one of those near a tank.

please make suggestions and comments, cause allot of my ideas or from right here, and someone might think of something I didn't yet.

Once the sink was plumbed in and I plumbed for the RO/DI unit, then I started with the walls, I wanted to sound proof the room as much as possible, just one of the things I wanted to work on, coming from past experience.

We also were putting up 3/8 inch panel board so I would be able to run a screw anywhere I needed for a clamp or what ever might come up. There again how many times have we needed a screw in the wall for a powerstrip, clamp, etc. Cleaned up the room a little put in some cabinets for towels, food, chemicals, etc. the room looks a lot bigger now, still along way off.

One suggestion...

If you aren't planning on it already, I would also look into adding some A/C into that room... perhaps a vent (if not present already) or a stand alone unit.

Unless of course you are going to use a chiller.

Looking good so far! We all would love to have a room like this!

Sindjin, see that's what I'm talking about, fortunately when I was putting this idea together, I was thinking of ways as well to keep the cost down on our electric bill, like we all wish.

This room has a vent that comes in on the left side, plus I have a ceiling fan. also I got the table in and refugium tank, and starting the plumbing madness design in my head.

A while ago, someone posted a pic of their tank in the weight room as well. Talk about giving someone an incentive to work out!!

old salty, its funny ain't it. who wants to work out when you can sit in front of your tank and eat hoho's, we moved out all the equipment, so we could make room for our madness.

on the wet/dry, that was a big factor in plumbing, first i wanted some kind of a overfill protection plan. and to set up a drain for the skimmers, no more worring about overfilling a jug or something.

I designed the second bulkhead on the wet/dry so if the water rises to high, higher than that second pipe it would start to drain as well keeping the water in the wet/dry and off the floor. Second there is a pipe with fittings on the wall that i installed with a down hill flow so the skimmers can just drain off into it and that goes to the sink.

bman i'm new to da hobby, and i have some questions if you don't mind, cause i like the way you are starting out, i see you have a tank on that table, is all that needed for such a small tank, and what is that on the wall above the table.

The tank on the table is actually being used for a refugium, you can do a search on refugiums to get a better understanding of what they do, above the table is a uv sterilizer, of course its not plumbed in yet, just the drain for it.

I will be putting the main tank in the center of the floor, and it will be dividing the room, with a wall built around it.

well I was hoping to get by with one pump like this on the picture, but plumbed for two just in case, I don't have a picture yet, but I did have to change it around a little.

anyway the end result for the plumbing madness before I set the tank in looks something like this...here I do have it running, but don't have the main tank in yet, this is about as far as I have gotten, we are setting in the tank right now, so I'll get back with those pics and progress.

what are the purple plumbing parts near the pump? also that black vat didnt come with all those bulkhead cut-outs right

I see you have an RO/DI Unit hanging on your wall Do you to have it set up to your sump or do you have it running to something else

wow, talk about your plumbing. one of these days ill get to do something like that, until then ill just sit here being jealous, good luck!

I like those smooth 90's. a lot less restrictive. I wish i used them on my setup.

Bobby Ray,

Don't use check valves on a reef tank or any other tank for that matter. I've been there and it's not if, but when they will fail. I know from experience, it won't be a pretty sight and they always fail at the worst time...... Anyone one else ever have a problem with them????
